See the close proximity of the SD card slot and the DVD slot on the iMac? When inserting the small photo card it is easy to get in a hurry and aim a little too high as I did recently. If the SD card mistakenly gets pushed into the DVD slot instead of the SD card slot, the card disappears from sight and gets stuck inside the Mac. Help is on the way!

Homemade SD Photo Card Extractor

I got the idea and design for this "extractor" from a Mac help site. It seems others have done this "wrong thing" before me. It is some small comfort to know I'm not alone.

I would NOT like to do this again. I would like to declare with the same confidence as Anne of Green Gables, 

"And I promise I'll never do it again. That's the one good thing about me. I never do the same wrong thing twice." But I'll keep the Purple SD Card Extractor handy just in case.

In this case, Mike made the extractor and performed the extraction. Mike has had practice getting me out of jams.

This extractor was cut from the plastic lid of a cardboard, raisin canister.
